Family Concerns - Displaced by Fires

  • I am having trouble getting a hold of my ES. Many of our staff are evacuated due to the fires. Communication and processing times are delayed. Please be patient. Our priority is to get all core-curriculum ordered. If you have been unable to make contact with your ES and have an urgent need, please email advisor@ieminc.org to receive support from our school.
  • Will I receive the full Instructional Funding allowance if signing my student agreement is delayed due to fires?  Yes.  Initially, you may see a prorated amount but we are working on a fix that will add-in the difference in the coming weeks.
  • If I lose my home and have to relocate, can I stay in my current school?  At the time of home loss, a family is considered homeless and can stay in our school for the remainder of the year.
  • Student Computer Loss:  If a student has lost their computer due to fire, please email advisor@ieminc.org for assistance. Please be sure to include the student’s name and current contact information including temporary housing address information.  Administrators will review these requests and submit to the IT department for processing.
  • If I have been evacuated and I am unable to complete any work for a few days, will I be marked truant?  No. Absences relating to the fires will be considered excused; however, we ask that families do their best to continue some learning each day.  Be creative! We understand the normal course work may not be possible.
  • If I am unable to attend Special Education services due to the fires, will I be considered truant?  Cases where classes or services were missed for a brief period of time due to the fires, will not be considered a truancy. Please communicate as soon as possible with your ES and the provider of the service if an appointment is missed.

Curriculum Library

  • The Curriculum Library was evacuated on Wednesday, August 19th.  It is close to the fire line.
  • Surpass orders are still being accepted but they can’t be processed.  It is preferred you wait to submit Surpass orders.  The earliest possible time we can resume processing will be late September, assuming we are able to get back into the building soon.

Curriculum Library

  • Curriculum Library will be closed the week of September 8th due to high levels of smoke and ash at the Lucerne Valley Unified School District property.  We hope to resume operations at our Curriculum Library once the District opens up access to the buildings. You may still request curriculum to be shipped to directly to you though Surpass, our online library database. Once our library reopens, we will resume shipping of any requested curriculum.

How Can Everyone Help?

  • For those living in areas that may be subject to fire, prepare a “go” plan, and consider what temporary housing may be available for you.

Those unaffected by fires:

  • PLEASE - take recommended precautions to protect you and your family from COVID exposure. Stay inside to avoid smoke and COVID exposure.
  • If you wish to donate to IEM school staff who have lost their homes due to fire, please send Gift Cards to IEM ℅ Kirstine Bowers, 4535 Missouri Flat Rd., Suite 1A, Placerville, CA 95667.
