Julia O.

Julia has been homeschooled since Kindergarten, enrolling in Ocean Grove Charter School in 3rd grade. Her academic interests are in STEM, especially mathematics, highlighted by her participation in math competitions. She is also an accomplished pianist, allowing her to use her talent in music to serve her church, and perform for the residents at a senior living facility.

Given the academic freedom to explore her interests, she is able to discover her passions and challenge herself in various pursuits. Her high school coursework includes AP-level courses and community college courses through dual enrollment, which allow her to accumulate transferable college credits.

As a result of her outstanding academic performance, Julia was named a National Merit Finalist, which opened doors to college acceptances and scholarships. She has been offered admission to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara (College of Creative Studies, Regents Scholarship), and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly scholarship). She is also offered admission to a few private colleges with generous merit scholarships. Although she has not yet decided on which college she will attend, she hopes to pursue her passion for chemistry and mathematics, with the confidence that her homeschooling experience has prepared her well to succeed in college.

Julia and her family are grateful for the support of various homeschool groups and co-ops on her homeschooling journey, and the opportunities available to her to learn and excel through Ocean Grove Charter School. Truly, it takes a village to raise a child.
