Keda is a Youth Ambassador for Never Such Innocence. Originating in the United Kingdom, Never Such Innocence’s mission is to provide a means by which young people can talk about conflict from their perspective. It began as a First World War centenary commemoration project for children and young people. Inspired by this conflict, more than 11,000 young people from 47 different countries between 2014 to 2018 created poetry, artwork, song and speeches. Leaders from around the globe have listened and responded to these voices. From 2019 Never Such Innocence expanded its focus to include conflict in all forms and throughout history, up to and including present day.

Keda had the chance to become one out of the thirteen worldwide Youth Ambassadors for Never Such Innocence by entering their competitions. First winning in 2018, Keda has gone on to win 3 times. From then, she has not looked back and has had the chance to visit London for the award ceremony and be interviewed live in person by the BBC World Service at the BBC Headquarters.

Keda’s remains committed to this cause. Early in August 2021, Keda performed on stage at the World Children Festival on the National Mall in Washington DC. Group Captain Peter Warmerdam from the British Embassy of Washington DC, introduced Keda and announced Never Such Innocence’s new creative competition. She then lead a workshop to help student get started in songwriting and encouraged them to raise their voices and be heard. Keda’s mission as NSI’s Youth Ambassador is to sharing this opportunity to young people worldwide.

The Never Such Innocence 2021/22 competition theme is “Life After Conflict". Resolve; Recover; Rebuild; Reflect; Remember.

Brick by brick, life must be rebuilt after a conflict. It takes time to repair and recover. Conflict can have a devastating impact on the lives and homes of everyone involved. Communities that were divided or destroyed are either reimagined or abandoned. NSI competition invites to express their thoughts on how people, communities and countries build a life after conflict using poetry, art, speech and song.
