What did you do prior to OGCS?

I was an educator, worked at the Department of Education in Washington DC under the Reagan Administration, started Christ the King Academy and Homeschool group in LA 1994, and came to OG when my children were in grade school.

How long have you been with OGCS?

Starting year 17

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Southern California in South Pasadena, which is a separate city from Pasadena. Although, I did work on the floats for the Rose Parade for many years.

Where did you go to college?

I went to Thomas Aquinas College in Ventura California for my BA and received my credential from Cal State LA.

Where do you live?

I now live in San Jose, CA with my four adult children, all graduates of OG

What areas do you serve for OGCS?

I serve all of OG as an advisor. As an ES my families are all in Santa Clara county.

What do you think is/are the best thing(s) about OGCS?

Working with the amazing people of OG. I love all my fellow ESs and am constantly amazed at how hard they work for their families to ensure long term success for their students

Do (did) you homeschool your kids?

Yes, all four through HS. They all have great jobs and their ability to problem solve and think on their feet is greatly respected by their employers and peers. Thanks OG.

What is your favorite curriculum?

I used the classical curriculum/Charlotte Mason philosophy of education, so my curriculum was very eclectic. I loved Saxon math for my children and for the students I serve. I think that the Socratic method of education to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presuppositions is the best way to prepare students to be 21st century thinkers and life long learners.

What is your favorite read aloud book?

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever- somehow my family could relate!

What is your favorite field trip?

Alcatraz Island because it was a total surprise how interesting and historical it was.

What is your area of expertise?

Delayed reading and creative ways to continue core education during this process

What is your dream summer vacation?

A house on the beach (any beach but maybe New Zealand for a change)with a great cook, my kids, and several great books to read.

What is your favorite subject to teach?

Literature and Religion

What do you like to do in your free time?

I read and watch foreign dramas

What is something interesting about yourself that many people might not know?

I love long and detailed philosophical/theological discussions with people who are interested in investigating the truths of life. I have been known to drink several pots of coffee late into the night pursuing some line of thought with others.
