Portfolio Tips for Parents

A quick at-a-glance look to make sure you upload the best portfolio sample for your ES!

 

General Guidelines

  • All portfolio samples should be:
  • A high-quality file that shows the student learning
  • Student’s own work that shows knowledge of the standards
  • Public school funded activities and curriculum only (no sectarian samples are allowed)
 

Paper Samples

  • Use PDF scanner or a smartphone camera
  • Make sure the sample is straight, clear, taken in good lighting, and shows the entire page
  • Include directions of assignment where possible
  • Grade all samples
  • If there is a date (not required) it must be a school day
  • Samples from educational travel are acceptable, regardless of location, as long as the sample documents actual learning.
 

Digital File Samples

  • Acceptable digital file types:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Google Docs 
    • Google Slides 
    • PDF
    • JPEG
 

Photo Samples

  • Be sure there is adequate lighting
  • Keep the background distraction-free
  • Photos need to show student actively engaging in the activity
  • Student should include a summary of skills learned (for younger students, the parent can write this)


Video Samples

  • Be sure there is adequate lighting
  • Keep the background distraction-free
  • Videos need to show student actively engaging in the activity
  • Length: 30 sec to 2 min
