WRITE WITH CONFIDENCE!

Our school is thrilled to announce a new optional writing program to help assist you with your children’s writing development. For those who have been with us for several years, you will remember the previous mandatory School Wide Writing Assignment. That program has been discontinued and is being replaced with our new, optional writing program we are calling the Writing Initiative.

Our goal for the Writing Initiative is to organize and present a collection of effective writing curriculum for students, and then provide direct parent trainings on how to best teach that curriculum at home.

YOUR PARTICIPATION IS REQUESTED!

Rather than focusing narrowly on high stakes writing exam preparation as was done previously, the new Writing Initiative will have a broad focus. It will provide online vendor product demonstrations on several of the more popular writing programs, followed by free online professional development “How to Write” training options. It is the school’s goal for the Writing Initiative to inform you about the vendors who provide effective writing services and to provide support in order for you to teach and develop your children's writing skills.

HOW IT WORKS

In order to accomplish these goals, our school encourages your participation in the Writing Initiative by doing the following:

01
First, learn about and explore popular writing programs by attending several live online Writing Initiative Product Demonstrations being offered in the month of January. You are encouraged to attend as many demonstrations as you would like as these will not be recorded. Pre-registration is required. To obtain the registration links, please refer to the December 14, 2016 Writing Initiative parent listserv, or contact your ES for the registration links. All Demonstration and Training dates with times can be found on the School Calendar.  This is your opportunity to learn about and ask questions regarding the features of each program: level of parent-teacher writing support, grading, ease of use, student-parent login access, reports, weekly time commitment for student and parent-teacher, etc.
02
Second, select and purchase one of the featured writing programs to implement and pilot this spring.
03
Third, using your child’s instructional funds, submit a purchase order request to your ES for your chosen program.
04
Fourth, register for and attend one of the online Writing Initiative “How to Write” Training Series to learn how to teach writing using the particular program you have chosen. Pre-registration is required. To obtain the registration links, please refer to the December 14, 2016 Writing Initiative parent listserv, or contact your ES for the registration links. All “How to Write” training series are being presented by professional writing trainers and will be recorded. Each session will be a combination of instruction and Q&A.
05
Finally, near the end of this school year we would appreciate you completing a brief parent feedback survey about your experience with this year’s featured writing programs and trainings.
